Dance. Raise. Inspire.
Every great dancer needs a great partner. Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation found that in Swinging with the Stars. Based on TV’s Dancing with the Stars, the event pairs local celebrities with professional dance instructors. with They train together and then showcase their choreographed routines at the event.
Dancers compete for two trophies – Audience Choice, decided by fans, and Team Excellence as voted by judges. The local version is also a charity event – while rehearsing and competing, celebrities raise money. Funds are also raised through ticket and beverage sales, as well as people voting online and in-person at the event.
The 2017 Swinging with the Stars sold out nearly three months before it was held on January 28. Attendees enjoyed a three-course meal and the chance to partake in fine wines before the electrifying dance show. After a grand opening number, celebrity teams took to the stage. The enthusiastic crowd showed their support for all dancers. In the end, they chose Chris Popplewell, from Strata Developments, and his partner, Amanda Murray, as the audience favourite. The judges selected Metric Design’s Tamara Bowman and her partner, Brenden Turanich, for the Team Excellence award.
Swinging with the Stars organizers and the Foundation are pleased to announce that an amazing $152,000 was raised for the project! Proceeds supported Saskatoon City Hospital’s Rehab Center.
