May 31, 2016 — Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation today announces that it has been accredited under Imagine Canada’s national Standards Program. With this achievement, the Foundation joins a growing community of more than 175 organizations dedicated to operational excellence.
The Standards Program is a Canada-wide set of shared standards for charities and nonprofits designed to strengthen practices in five fundamental areas: board governance; financial accountability and transparency; fundraising; staff management; and volunteer involvement.
“While SCHF was already doing an outstanding job in many of these areas, there is always room for improvement,” reports Greg Porter, chair of the Foundation’s volunteer board of directors. “Through the accreditation process, SCHF was able to achieve excellence in these areas to further strengthen donor confidence in our organization. This strong framework will ensure that the Foundation is well positioned to continue our mission and vision of supporting quality healthcare in our community.”

The goals of Imagine Canada’s Standards Program are to increase the transparency of charities and nonprofits, and to strengthen public confidence in individual organizations and the sector as a whole. Trust is the foundation for what matters to Imagine Canada, its stakeholders and those who support the organization.
Transparent, peer-review process
Imagine Canada’s policies and procedures in the five areas of compliance were evaluated by a group of volunteers from the sector, and were found to be compliant with the Standards Program.
“The process of standards accreditation through Imagine Canada has been a learning experience for Foundation board and staff,” adds Foundation CEO Steve Shannon. “The Foundation is stronger, wiser and more transparent as a result.”
